5.11.23 – Using an A-Frame

Using an “A frame” farmers in Honduras are learning to lay out level curves to be able to do contour planting on their hillside farms. The “A frame” was used by the Romans to construct their famous aqueducts and roads. A model of a Roman “A frame” as displayed in a museum in Morocco is shown by Chon Tacatic.

Creating this terracing helps farmers retain water and soil on steep mountainsides. In times of drought, the terraces hold and catch precious water. During flooding and extreme weather, the soil doesn’t wash away down to rivers. Using a A-Frame is an old technology but has become a crucial part of EPIC’s current battle against climate change.
