This gift provides 15 children’s tooth brushes for children who do not have their own toothbrush. In the very poor rural parts of Guatemala where EPIC programs are working, tooth brushes are considered too expense for families to buy individual brushes for young children. Also, children are not usually taught how to brush their teeth.

Health promoters are teaching the importance of tooth brushing to mothers and showing kids how to brush their teeth. They are also fighting an uphill battle against sugary soda pop, cheap candy. and sugary snacks. In Central America the introduction of soda pop and junk foods has been terrible for children’s teeth. these were not being sold 40 years ago in the very rural parts of Guatemala and Honduras where EPIC is working. Now children have more cavities in their teeth than the adults!
