7.30.23 – Hot & Dry? Plant Maguey!

If it is hot and dry, then plant Maguey! The Vicente Guerrero: Maguey Project, EPIC’s partner in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala, is producing these Maguey plants to be used in agroforestry. Maguey was used in agroforesty for centuries by Mexico’s indigenous people.

With climate change, the region has become noticeably hotter and drier. Corn, beans, fruit trees, and pine trees are dying from drought and disease. The situation is quite critical. The leaders of the Vicente Guerrero program desire to draw on traditional knowledge and the native plants of the area to confront the current climate reality.
