A Huge Thanks to Seattle Seed Co.
During winter in the US it is the “dry season” in Guatemala. This is the best time to plant and grow vegetables in the Guatemalan Highlands because there are fewer diseases and pests that attack vegetables. In the current planting season the FUNDAMARCOS extension team has benefited from a large donation of 7 varieties of organic heirloom seeds from Seattle Seed Company. Guatemala’s indigenous Maya have a strong preference for growing crops from which they can harvest their own seed for the next planting. They resent only being able to purchase hybrid or genetically modified vegetable seeds, so they have been delighted to have this new partnership with Seattle Seed Company.
